Mike then went on to describe how cardio sounds good in theory — but in reality, it sucks.
“Afterall, the science is simple: moving your body burns calories,” he said.
Then he went on to explain the reason why this theory doesn’t stand true.
You see, your body is the product of thousands of generations of evolution…
And for the vast majority of this time food was very scarce.
Because of this, your body has evolved to adapt to any situation to burn as few calories as possible.
“But how’s this related to cardio?” I asked curiously.
He said that in reality your body hates cardio — because it uses up a huge amount of energy.

So, in order to conserve calories, your body finds ways to adapt to it.
It tries to become more “fuel efficient”.
So that over time you burn less and less calories.
He then went on to describe exactly what happens when you start doing cardio:
Weeks 1-3: Your body is caught off guard by the exercise because it’s not used to it.
This is why when you start with cardio — it’s just plain difficult…
Many people find it extremely hard to push themselves even for 20 minutes.

It’s also why most people lose a few pounds in the first few weeks of starting cardio.
Weeks 4-16: Your body slowly begins to adapt to cardio.
